Overview
For
46 years, the Biennial Groundwater Conference has been a forum
for educators, researchers, and practitioners to discuss needs
critical to groundwater management in California. Topics discussed
in the conference provided policy makers statewide chances
to preview the emerging issues of groundwater resource utilization.
Managing California's Groundwater: The Challenges of Quality
and Quantity is the theme of the 2001 conference.
Technical
Program
Celeste
Cantu, Executive Director, California State Water Resources
Control Board will be the keynote speaker. Two concurrent
sessions on policy and technical issues, featuring 48 invited
speakers, will be held to cover the following topic areas:
- groundwater
quality
- groundwater
quantity
- groundwater
management
- new
tools
- watershed
effects on groundwater
- development
of groundwater in impaired water areas
- emerging
non-conventional contaminants
- GIS
and hydrologic applications; and remediation technologies
Conference
participants are encouraged to make poster presentations of
relevant professional work. For participation, follow Instructions
for Poster Presentations. A detailed conference program will
be posted in early September. Abstracts of the presentations
will be available to registrants at the Conference. In addition
to presentations, there will also be exhibits of equipment
and services by vendors.

of California and California Department of Water Resources
(DWR) have been sponsors of the biennial conference since
the beginning and other sponsors include Groundwater Resources
Association of California, California Water Education Foundation,
California State Water Resources Control Board and the U.S.
Geological Survey. Cooperating organizations are International
Association of Hydrogeologists and Association of California
Water Agencies, California Groundwater Association, National
Ground Water Association, and the State Bar of California.
Carl Hauge, Chief Hydrogeologist for the California Department
of Water Resources, Rita Schmidt Sudman, Executive Director
of the California Water Education Foundation, and Vicki Kretsinger,
Board Member of the Groundwater Resources Assocation, are
Co-chairs of the Conference Planning Committee.
