This presentation will briefly cover the basic introductory topics of nomenclature, structure, chemistry, exposure, risk and possible remediation pathways, what is known to us today. The presentation will also include:

  • Analytical methods review 
  • How do we reduce variability? 
  • Explanation of the USEPA Technical Advisory Method 537 Rev. 1.1
  • Sample collection and storage, including an extraction holding time study
  • Isotope Dilution and LCMSMS
  • The Total Oxidizable Precursor (TOP) Assay – What is it and what do the results mean, specifically when conducting remediation
  • Future concerns
  • Capabilities and Questions?

SPEAKER BIO:

Maryam Azad is a professional scientist with over 20 years of diversified experience in the environmental and chemical industry. Maryam has a Master of Science degree from California State University, Los Angeles with focus in Chemistry/ Analytical Chemistry/ Biochemistry. She has authored 3 patents and 6 publications. Starting her career in research, she spent over 10 years in designing products and processes for the environmental industry. Then she started her own niche laboratory focusing on conducting remediation studies and designing remediation systems for complex and challenging contaminated sites. After 7 years of running her own business Maryam joined TestAmerica’s business team, where currently she is working with her clients to support their analytical testing needs. In her current role Maryam continues to provide her consulting services in the remediation and testing industry.
