An Important Message from GRA and IGS:

The officers of the Inland Empire Branch, in coordination with IGS, have decided to postpone our March 10 joint meeting.

This decision was made in light of several companies issuing/drafting travel ban and non-essential meeting policies intended to minimize potential exposure risks to the COVID-19 virus. Given the rapidly evolving response actions to this issue, and to remain consistent with the travel ban policies we are aware of, we feel it is best to err on the side of caution and postpone the meeting for the time being.

If you already registered online, you will receive an automatic refund shortly.  We look forward to seeing you once we have a rescheduled meeting date.

The Inland Empire Branch is pleased to present:

2020 Updates - Understanding Geology & Geophysics Licensure Requirements in California

Laurie Racca, PG
Senior Registrar, Geology & Geophysics Board for Professional
Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG)

 PRESENTATION:

This is a joint meeting with Inland Geological Society.

On August 1, 1968, Governor Ronald Reagan signed Assembly Bill 600 into law, creating the State Board of Registration for Geologists, and regulating the geologic profession in California. The legislation was driven by consumer demand for services to address geologic hazards, especially landslides in the southern part of the State. Unqualified persons performing questionable geologic work combined with a patchwork of local licensing requirements eventually resulted in the passage of The Geologist Act. In 2019, the Board promulgated a regulation to clarify the requirements for geology and geophysics licensure in California. This presentation will include a review of fundamental licensing concepts, and provide an overview of the specific qualification requirements for the GIT, PG, PGP, CEG and CHG. This will include a discussion of the recent updates to the regulations regarding education requirements and how to properly document qualifying work experience. Understanding this information is important for early career professionals seeking licensure, and for licensed professionals who want to help their staff become licensed.
