The Southern California Branch Presents

Tijuana's Transborder Wastewater Crisis and Managed Aquifer Recharge

This meeting will be hosted virtually on Zoom.

DETAILS:

We are excited to host Tony Daus from GSI Environmental Inc. who will be presenting a talk titled TIJUANA’S TRANSBORDER WASTEWATER CRISIS AND MANAGED AQUIFER RECHARGE. Tony will provide an overview of the project and the hurdles to overcome in making the project a success. Please join us on November 19th from 5:00 - 6:30. The presentation and Q&A will take place during the first hour followed by a 30-min virtual happy hour.

The discharge of untreated municipal wastewater has plagued the coasts of southern San Diego County and Tijuana for many years and has been the subject of numerous newspaper articles and a recent 60 Minutes segment. Recent plans to construct a wastewater treatment plant in Tijuana will treat approximately one third of Tijuana’s wastewater discharge yielding a high quality tertiary treated effluent. Since there is no local end user for this treated water, the current plan is to build a 60 mile pipeline to Valle de Guadalupe where the water will be used for irrigation in this famous wine-making region near Ensenada. For the past year Tony Daus has been involved with the planning and conceptual design of managed aquifer recharge facilities in Valle de Guadalupe to store treated wastewater during the winter months.

SPEAKER:

Tony Daus is a Principal Hydrogeologist with GSI Environmental in Irvine, California and has worked in California and internationally on water resources and environmental related projects for 37 years.
