An Operations Perspective: Aquifer Storage and Recover (ASR) Program Expansion Within the City of Roseville Towards a Form of Conjunctive Use

INTRODUCTION:

The City of Roseville is currently in the process of expanding its Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) program including increased operation of their ASR wells and construction of new facilities. This expansion has required changes to the operational requirements of the City’s existing water supply system and consideration of how ASR will affect program operations in the future. This presentation discussing how the City’s operations team has tackled these challenges and some of their considerations for the future of the program, including

• Preplanning and water distribution system preparation.

• Development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Modes of ASR operation.

• Maintenance considerations including proactive, preventative, and reactive maintenance.

• Water quality reporting and chemical delivery under current supply chain constraints.

Mike Simi has served as the Water Distribution Superintendent for the City of Roseville since 2019. He joined the Roseville team bringing 16 years of experience in the water utility industry. In his current role, Mike is responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of the water distribution system. He is committed to providing high-quality, reliable water service to the community of Roseville as well as integrating innovation and sustainability into the future of Roseville water.

 

 

JOHN TADLOCK, CITY OF ROSEVILLE

John Tadlock is a Supervisor for the Ground Water team for the City of Roseville. He has 28 years’ experience in the water utility industry, 16 of that with the City. John is involved on the operations side of the City’s ASR program. He and his team work closely with consulting professionals to apply science and engineering to the operations and maintenance of the ASR program.

TREVOR KENT, GEI CONSULTANTS

Trevor Kent is a geologist with GEI Consultants in Sacramento. He has helped with the assessment and development of ASR programs across northern California including initial studies into ASR viability, well operations assessments, ASR program monitoring, along with permitting and implementation of ASR pilot programs. Trevor also works in groundwater management such as the development of groundwater sustainability plans under SGMA
