So, You Want to Do a Tracer Test…

Presented by:

Sonya Cadle, P.G., Tetra Tech

SUMMARY OVERVIEW OF GRACAST:

Many project teams assessing regional and site-specific hydrogeologic conditions would like to perform a tracer test - and understandably so; tracer tests provide extremely useful information that can bolster your understanding of the hydrogeologic controls and dynamics of groundwater flow inherent to your project setting. But which tracer and type of test will best meet the project's data needs? Also, how can the team set the tracer testing up for success? This talk will cover some of these key questions and considerations and provides real-life examples from more than two decades of experience conducting effective tracer tests to help your project team scope and plan a successful tracer test. Uses of tracer tests include assessing groundwater-surface water interaction, identifying potential groundwater dependent ecosystems, defining the transport, migration, and potential impacts of contaminants to human and/or ecological receptors, and providing information to support groundwater use and/or responsible party allocation assessments. This talk will also provide information on the use of clean-water and natural tracers for tests conducted in sensitive environments or public settings, as well as share relative cost considerations for tracer tests.

SPEAKER:

Sonya Cadle, P.G., Tetra Tech.

Sonya Cadle, Senior Hydrologist with Tetra Tech, has over 20 years of experience in hydrogeology, groundwater modeling, and aquifer testing. She specializes in characterization and groundwater modeling involving complex geological and/or hydrogeological environments, including karst, fluvial and alluvial deposits, till, and fractured bedrock systems to assess site conditions, remedial options, water resource availability, and dewatering needs. She has extensive experience with aquifer testing design, implementation, and analysis, and has designed, participated in, and reviewed dozens of tracer tests over her career. Additionally, Ms. Cadle has experience in the design and implementation of long-term groundwater monitoring networks.

MODERATOR:

Rob Wilhelm, P.G., Tetra Tech

Rob Wilhelm, Senior Hydrogeologist with Tetra Tech, has specialized in the investigation and remediation of complex contaminated sites throughout the US for over than 30 years. Mr. Wilhelm routinely builds and leads teams to deliver technical services efficiently and cost-effectively, and helps clients manage their environmental liabilities to achieve cleanup goals, regulatory compliance, and successfully restore and re-purpose contaminated properties.
