The monitorin g began with extensometers in the early 2000&rsquo\;s followed by GPS subs idence networks in 2004 and 2008. Most recently, CORS and NASA Insar subs idence data are available. These measurement methods cover different part s of the valley and have differing degrees of accuracy ranging from 0.005 feet to 1-2 feet. Records indicate that inelastic subsidence has not been measured in the Northern Sacramento Valley until the recent drought Calif ornia had. Below average precipitation amounts between 2011 and 2015, inc luding two critical dry years, led to increased groundwater pumping and re cord low groundwater levels. As a result, land subsidence has been measur ed in areas within Glenn and Colusa counties where large groundwater depre ssions exist on the west side of the valley. The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) recognizes land subsidence as one of the six undesi rable results and monitoring and reporting of land subsidence is required. Additional efforts by the Department of Water Resources and local agenci es have begun. \r\n \r\nSPEAKER BIO: \r\nBill Ehorn, P.G, CHG is a sup ervising engineering geologist and the Regional Planning Branch Chief for DWR&rsquo\;s Northern Region Office.
