GRACast: Danish SGMA (1999-2015)
Presented by:
Max Halkjaer
Ramboll, Hydrogeologist
In 1999, the Danish Government initiated the National Groundwater Mapping and Protection Program to achieve a detailed description of Danish aquifers with respect to localization, extension, distribution and interconnection as well as vulnerability against contaminants.
The Program now covers approx. 40 percent of the Danish area designated as particularly valuable water abstraction areas.
Water consumers finance the mapping program by paying 0.08 USD cent per consumed m3 water.
The presentation will give an overall introduction to the history behind the legislation, how the program was funded and not least the process getting from existing data to Groundwater Sustainability Plans. There will be a focus on Data Management and innovative software and hardware solutions developed over the years.
*Early Registration (November 9) is $75 for Members* and $100 for Non-Members*
*Registration after November 9 is $100 for Members* and $125 for Non-Members*

He’s contributed to a large number of projects around the world with a focus on protecting groundwater aquifers and groundwater sustainability. With an entrepreneurial mindset, Halkjaer has been involved in the development of GIS-based tools used for analyzing water quality, processing geophysical data, and interpreting the geometrical extent of aquifers. He is the cofounder of the company SkyTEM Surveys providing airborne geophysics developed specifically for groundwater mapping. He holds a master’s degree in geophysics from Aarhus University, Denmark.
MODERATOR BIO:
