Poster Submittal Guidelines:

The event organizers will provide flat 30” x 40” white background foam boards and thumb tacks for displaying posters. The foam board will sit on a site-provided easel. Presenters are responsible for preparing, mounting, and removal of the posters. Successful poster presentations must be carefully planned, clear and concise, oriented to transfer information effectively, and hold the attention of the readers. For those who are not familiar with preparing posters presentation, the following are some recommendations:

  • Planning - Focus on the introduction, methods, results discussion, summary, and references. Emphasize the points you want to stress and avoid unnecessary details. Think of headlines, text, charts, graphs, illustrations, and photos, and incorporate these communication tools into the planning. Keep in mind the limited room on each poster board.
  • Organization - Start from the upper left corner, place the title-author(s)-sponsoring institution listing at the top of the board, and indicate the proper flow of content to the audience.
  • Simplicity - Do not crowd too much information into the presentation. Concentrate on two or three main points, make sure text is short, concise, and easily understood, use abbreviations and acronyms sparingly, and avoid complicated graphs and tables.
  • Lettering - Make all lettering legible from a distance of 5-6 feet. Text in upper and lower case letters (“sentence case”) is more readable than all capitals. All type should be at least ¼ inch tall and title should be at least one inch tall.
