Bio:

David W. Abbott, P.G., C.Hg. is a Consulting Geologist specializing in groundwater with over 40 years of experience in the exploration and development of groundwater supplies, installation and design of water supply wells, perennial yield studies, contamination investigations, geotechnical and groundwater problem solving, and protection of groundwater resources. Mr. Abbott has conducted and managed water supply and environmental projects throughout the western United States including California, Washington, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, and New Mexico. These projects not only provided experience in a wide array of geologic environments but also provided experience in a variety of groundwater situations, issues and problems supporting groundwater purveyors, geotechnical engineers, construction dewatering contractors, aquifer recharge and groundwater management districts, water rights attorneys and their clients, environmental pollution clients, and precious and aggregate mining industries. Mr Abbott has served as secretary to the GRA state Board of Directors between 1994 and 1996 and currently serves as a Board of Director since 1998. David contributes to GRA programs by chairing and organizing technical workshops and classes, chairing the 2001 GRA Annual meeting in collaboration with the Association of Engineering Geologist (AEG), and serving on many of GRA committees (affiliates, awards [chair], events, financial, and technical). David also served on several task forces to work with association members, allied and affiliated organizations, government agencies (state, county, and city) on a variety of regulatory and guideline issues. Since 2005, David has contributed a quarterly column to HydroVisions - Wells and Words. Mr. Abbott was on the Advisory Board to the Water Resources Center Archives. Since 2005, David serves as the Treasurer and Board of Director of the California Council of Geoscience Organizations and since Fall of 2011 has been treasurer for the SF Section of AEG. Prior to 1992, Mr. Abbott also was technical liaison, contributor, and strong supporter of the California Groundwater Association (CGA). He is a member of NGWA (1976), American Geological Institute (AGI, 1976), AEG (1978), Geological Society of America (GSA, 1986), CGA (1987), American Geophysical Union (AGU, 1989), National Center for Science Education (NCSE, 2002), and Northern California Geologic Society (NCGS). Special interests include basic groundwater and hydrogeology education, Quaternary geology, well design, well hydraulics, fractured rock hydraulics, low-yield aquifers, down-hole geophysics, applied geostatistics, and forensic geochemistry. David holds a B.S. degree in Geology from the University of Puget Sound, and 94-quarter units of graduate study toward an advanced degree in geophysics (paleomagnetism) from the University of Oregon and Western Washington University. Mr. Abbott is a Professional Geologist and Certified Hydrogeologist in the State of California, and Professional Geologist in Washington and New Hampshire. In addition to technical presentations and publications, he was a contributor to two books, one on MTBE in 2000 and the other on Chromium (VI) in 2005. David also assisted in the preparation of the third edition of Groundwater Hydrology (2005) by David K. Todd, Ph.D. and Larry Mays, Ph.D.
